External Controls

External control on government can be broken down to two forms of influence. Money and votes. Reform Our Republic believes that the only external influence on government is the people and their exercise of voting for representation. Minority factions use money to “vote” and pursue their own particular interests adverse to the interests of the American public.

Currently money plays a large role in politics that is exploited by minority factions and must be eliminated. Although contributions can potentially come from any citizen or incorporated entity, there is a large disparity between the amount of contributions the vast majority of Americans can contribute and what the wealthiest individuals and corporations can contribute. The power of the vote and the power of the political contribution are unequal for two reasons:

While the American voter must choose between the conservative candidate OR the liberal candidate, minority factions use contributions to “vote” for both the conservative AND liberal candidate.

While American citizens can vote for only ONE senator and ONE representative and in their respective state or congressional district, minority factions can potentially “vote” for ALL representatives and senators throughout the country.

In order to remove this unequal amount of external influence by minority factions and allow the American citizen to be the sole external control on government, all private money must be banned from federal elections and expenditures must derive solely from the public treasury.
